SEARCH PAGE

There are three types of searches available.

Designation Query
Enter the name of a numbered object, e.g., Vesta, or the temporary designation of an unnumbered object, e.g., 1970JB. Alternatively enter the exact number for a numbered asteroid.

Note: You do not need to enter the whole name, and it is not case sensitive. In the search string you can include the question mark (?), to represent any single character, and the asterisk (*), to match any string of zero or more characters (e.g. "*eus" or "200?AA*"). If you enter "e*" the search returns all objects beginning with the letter "E".

Orbital Query
Here you may find out which objects have certain orbital characteristics as specified by the entries in the fields of the corresponding "Field". You can make selection by imposing constraints on the values of the orbital parameters or on their uncertainties, if available. By default the search engine outputs an unsorted list of objects, but you may choose to get them sorted either by the orbital characteristics (click the corresponding round button on the left), or by their uncertainties (click the button on the right). Above the query form there are buttons to select epoch to which orbital elements to be searched should correspond.
Observational Query
Enter your observing requirements as specified by the entries in the fields of the corresponding "Field", and get a list of objects that are presently observable (click the button on the left to get the sorted output).
To reset the forms click on the Query button on the left.
